How label stock, gap/black-mark sensors, and darkness settings affect scan-ready barcode quality on thermal label printers.

Media is Part of the Specification

Label printers fail more often from media mismatch than from electronics. Treat label size, adhesive, and liner as first-class requirements in every quotation.

Sensors

Most deployments use either gap sensing between die-cut labels or black mark sensing on the liner. Configure the printer to the media you stock - switching media without recalibration produces skips and misaligned barcodes.

  • Match darkness and speed to the stock; over-dark prints can bloom thin bars
  • Verify quiet zones on the label design
  • Test with the same scanners used on the floor
